Copyrights
Since 1988, copyright rights exist in
any "original work of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of
expression". The copyright protects against five unauthorized
acts of copying: reproduction, distribution, preparation of
derivative works, public display and public performance.
Good
copyright strategies for businesses include (a) employee education;
(b) policing for proper copyright notice; and (c) setting and
maintaining policies regarding when to register copyrights.
Employee education is first and foremost, because many copyright
infringement violations occur by uneducated employees innocently
copying subject matter without realizing that their actions are
illegal. |
